I take a very collaborative approach to coaching. Though I have a general structure with how I like to begin our work together, I also prioritize my clients' needs and pacing and adapt my sessions to meet those needs; I believe centering and uplifting my clients' individual vision for coaching is essential to building trust and genuine support within the coaching process. My job is to balcony and support you in clarifying that vision and figuring out goals and pacing that feel challenging but not overwhelming, so that coaching can feel exciting rather than draining or stressful.
Before we begin our first coaching session, I will send you an intake form with basic questions as well as some guiding questions about your experiences, strengths, challenges, and more to help me get to know you better and inform some of our coaching work together. At our first session, we will use these questions and other guided questions as a jumping-off point for beginning to figure out and/or clarify goals and intentions for coaching, as well as for building rapport and getting to know each other. (I believe it is much easier to succeed in coaching if you feel comfortable and authentic in sessions, so building rapport and genuine connection is important!)
As we continue with sessions, we will further flesh out what your goals are. Goals can be anything, from long-term visions and setting up your future to smaller or more immediate goals that can improve your wellbeing in the moment. (For more examples of some of the various topics and goals I've worked with clients to achieve, see my FAQ page.) Sometimes a client's goals can shift and change over time as we do our work together over time, and I am always willing to adapt, change, add, or drop goals as your needs adjust.
I will help you explore the genuine needs behind your goals, work with the challenges or roadblocks that may be getting in the way, and engage together in the practical steps involved to reach those goals. We can explore tips and strategies for working with yourself better or feeling more productive, take action steps towards achieving your goals, and assign homework and next steps (only if requested, and always optional) to maintain consistency between sessions.
To me, the most important collaborative aspect of our coaching experience is that I am always open and receptive to direct feedback from my clients on what works and does not work for them. I truly believe it is my job to adapt my approach to meet the needs of my clients, never the other way around; you don't deserve to be forced into a mold of how coaching is "supposed to" be done or what your goals "should" be. I absolutely request that you communicate with me on what is working for you in sessions as well as what is not working, or if you are ever feeling stagnant or stuck, so that we can work together on keeping our sessions fulfilling and engaging for you. I will also be honest with you on my limitations in situations where I feel I may not be the best fit to help you. I have a wide variety of connections and helpful resources around town, and will gladly refer to you other resources if I think there are people who are better suited to help you or who can better support in certain areas.
Feel free to reach out with any additional questions. If you feel ready to take that next step, go to the Get Started page and let me know a bit more about you. I'm looking forward to our work together!
